Opera blocks the cryptocurrency wild mining

The browser Opera starts 2018 with a version 50 including equipped with a protection against cryptojacking.

We had mentioned this arrival in our columns for the beta browser Opera version 50. A now stable version with a protection against cryptojacking and insidious cryptocurrency mining scripts.

Called NoCoin, the protection is integrated with Opera's native advertising blocker and will be automatically activated with it. Opera states that the NoCoin list is anonymously uploaded via opera.com.

Note that there are extensions for Google Chrome and Firefox that are also specialized in blocking cryptocurrency mining scripts to prevent unwanted use of computer resources.

"We are fans of cryptocurrencies but we do not want sites to use users' computers for unknowing mining," writes the Opera Desktop team. At the same time, Opera offers a native currency converter that supports cryptocurrency.

Available for download, Opera 50 also introduces direct-to-page PDF recording, Chromecast support, and enhances its VR player for native 360-degree video support for direct playback in virtual reality headsets.

The changes will also be recalled with the built-in VPN functionality we mentioned.
