AT & T promises mobile 5G by the end of 2018

US mobile operators once again want to offer the new generation of mobile network technologies early on. AT & T promises mobile 5G by the end of 2018 in some cities in the United States.

Officially, commercial 5G mobile networks will only start in 2020 or 2019 for those in a hurry but some operators are planning to shake up the schedule.

In the United States, the operators are fighting to be the first to claim the exploitation of these new technologies, even to wring a little neck to the reality. The Verizon operator thus promises 5G from 2018 but in a fixed 5G configuration playing the alternatives to ADSL access, cable or fiber and with a "5G Evolution" of his own.

For its part, AT & T announces for its part to be able to offer the real mobile 5G from the end of 2018. This initial deployment will concern 12 agglomerations in the United States.

The operator can now rely on the finalization of a first technical framework announced by the 3GPP last month for the 5G NR "non-standalone", pending a more complete definition by the summer.

AT & T does not give any details of expected performance but it is an announcement to position it as one of the first telecom operators to offer 5G, even adapting technologies en route without waiting for finalized versions .
