WhatsApp: record 75 billion messages


Despite a breakdown, WhatsApp set a new record for sending messages.
More than 75 billion on the occasion of the New Year.

       Following an investigation opened in October 2016, the Italian competition authority announces a fine of 3 million euros against the application of WhatsApp which is in the bosom of Facebook.   One procedure (among others) was to determine whether WhatsApp had forced users to accept all new terms of service established in August 2016. In particular, with respect to the sharing of their personal data with Facebook, Suggesting that otherwise the use of WhatsApp would be impossible.     In a statement, the Transalpine authority writes that WhatsApp has indeed encouraged users to do so. However, former users had the opportunity to refuse data sharing.   It should also be remembered that the European CNIL have questioned the legitimacy of updating the terms of use of WhatsApp.

New record for the WhatsApp messaging application with the announcement of the sending of more than 75 million messages on the occasion of the New Year. The previous record to 63 billion messages was established over the same period for the passage from 2016 to 2017.

  The record takes into account 13 billion images and 5 billion videos that have been exchanged. Not to mention features of WhatsApp like the Statutes that are clones of Snapchat Stories. WhatsApp boasts 1.3 billion active users per month.

 
The bar of 75 billion messages sent in such a short period of time (one day) was crossed while WhatsApp suffered from a downtime on December 31 in the evening in several countries, including Europe. A malfunction of more than one hour.


Recall that in late 2017, the CNIL has public notice WhatsApp for the transmission of personal data to Facebook.
