US launches fourth satellite to monitor missile fire


The United States is preparing to put into orbit a fourth satellite SBIRS responsible, among other things, to monitor missile fire in the world.



 North Korea has carried out a variety of missile fires in 2017, demonstrating day after day its ability to send them farther and further to reach North American territories.

It is in this context that this week is preparing the launch of a fourth North American missile surveillance satellite in the world. The SBIRS GEO Flight-4 satellite (SBIRS for Space Based InfraRed System and GEO for geostationary orbit) is to be launched from Cape Canaveral and using an Atlas V launcher from ULA (United Launch Alliance).

This satellite, designed by Lockheed Martin and worth an estimated $ 1.7 billion, will complete a surveillance system of three satellites, the previous one, SBIRS GEO Flight-3, was launched just a year ago, and ground control stations.

And already, the US military is preparing the ground for the launch of the two following satellites, GEO-5 and GEO-6, whose production and integration phases have already been validated, which should allow their rapid launch from here. a few quarters.
