With other performance improvements, the new version of Firefox Quantum is available.
After the big release of Firefox 57 - alias Quantum - late 2017, Mozilla publishes today Firefox 58 which retains the label Quantum. The browser integrates various elements of Project Quantum and its next-generation engine, and evolutions will continue.
It starts with improved performance for rendering on the screen using a dedicated CPU thread. The technique used answers to the name of Off-Main-Thread Painting and concerns Windows. It is explained here. The enhancement is more likely to be felt with heavy JavaScript code.
At the same time, work continues on the integration of the WebRender graphics rendering engine in 2018 to better leverage modern GPUs and parallelization.

Still in terms of performance optimization, improvements are focused on a faster compilation of WebAssembly code. This low-level programming language must be able to run applications with near native performance. It was designed for execution alongside JavaScript.
On a more practical level, Firefox 58 introduces automatic filling of credit card information. Deployment will be gradual. For the screenshot, the Firefox Screenshots feature lets you copy and paste captures directly to the clipboard, and becomes available in incognito mode.
Note that user profiles created in Firefox 58 (and later) will not be supported in earlier versions of Firefox.
