In just a few weeks, Facebook has partnered with players in the music industry.
After signing a licensing agreement with Universal Music Group in late December, Facebook chained this week with partnerships involving Sony / ATV Music Publishing, then Global Music Rights, Kobalt Music Publishing, SESAC, HFA / Rumblefish and GMR.
As Universal had done, Sony / ATV evokes a global and multi-year agreement. It covers a catalog of more than 3 million titles. Without fear of a withdrawal for copyright infringement, users of Facebook, Instagram and Oculus will notably be able to upload and share videos containing catalog compositions.

Global Music Rights represents artists such as Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars, Drake and Bruce Springsteen among others. The company is known to have singled out YouTube for sharing revenue with artists and songwriters.
These agreements should allow Facebook to strengthen its action to become a competitor of weight against YouTube. Google's video platform remains a popular destination for online music consumption.
In addition, the agreements reached by Facebook are likely to allow the music industry to have more room for maneuver in the strained negotiations with Google. Facebook may also have other ideas at the top of products around music.
