YouTube and iOS: empty battery and overheating of the iPhone

Since iOS 11, the YouTube app for iOS does not seem to get along with the iPhone. YouTube is aware of the situation.

There is obviously a problem with the YouTube app for iOS. Users complain about a battery life of their iPhone which is reduced much too quickly. Some also report an abnormal overheating of the iPhone or iPad.

Concerns have been raised with the iPhone 7 and up to the iPhone X, mainly with a device equipped with iOS 11.1.1. However, iOS 11.1.1 does not a priori make any noticeable changes.

Some comments in the App Store underline for their part a problem appeared since iOS 11.

@TeamYouTube Please address heating and battery issues in iOS youtube app.

On Twitter, an official YouTube account reported working on a patch, but did not expand on the reasons for the bug.
