Apple: record profit with slightly less iPhone sold

If Apple sold a little less iPhone during the holiday season, those sold are the most expensive to date. What to show a record profit.

In a climate of uncertainty due to a series of rumors surrounding sales of the iPhone X, Apple publishes quarterly results that are the best in its history. Admittedly, the group sold a little less iPhone during the Christmas holidays, but the high prices have more than made up for this small drop.

Apple has a turnover of 88.3 billion dollars for the last three months of 2017, an increase of 13% over one year. Net income was over $ 20 billion, up 12% year-over-year.

IPhone sales account for nearly 70% of the total income of the powerful American group. With 77.3 million iPhones sold in the last quarter of 2017 (which represents the first quarter of the year 2018 shifted Apple), it is a decline of 1.2% year on year. However, at the same time, the average selling price of the iPhone has risen to $ 796 (against $ 694 a year ago).

As usual, Apple does not detail the distribution of sales according to the models of the iPhone. We will be satisfied with this statement from Apple boss Tim Cook: "The iPhone X exceeded our expectations and has been our best-selling iPhone every week since its launch in November."

In a more than mature smartphone market, IDC also notes that Apple has surpassed Samsung's sales in the last quarter of 2017 with 77.3 million iPhones against 74.1 million Samsung smartphones. In the year 2017, Samsung remains ahead of Apple (317.3 million against 215.8 million).

In the last quarter of 2017, Apple sold 13.2 million iPads and 5.1 million Mac computers. Sales and revenues slightly up for the tablet and slightly down for the Mac. In the so-called other products tote category (Apple TV, Apple Watch, Beats products, iPod touch, accessories), Apple reports a revenue increase of 36%. On the services side, this increase is 18%.

The iPad accounts for 6.6% of Apple's quarterly revenue, 7.8% for Mac, 6.2% for other products, and 9.6% for services. Tim Cook says that in January, the number of active Apple devices reached 1.3 billion.
