Scott Tilley is an amateur astronomer who has specialized in the tracking of satellites over the years, and more specifically those for espionage. Thus, since last January, he scanned the sky in the hope of finding the famous spy-satellite Zuma lost soon after it was put into orbit by SpaceX.

Failing to find Zuma, it is another satellite that was found: Image, a satellite launched by NASA in 2000 and whose agency had lost contact 12 years ago. This satellite had been launched for a two-year mission to observe the Earth's magnetosphere, it was then possible to create the first maps of the plasmasphere.

NASA lost contact with its satellite in 2005. The agency confirmed the discovery and made some additional observations. It would appear that the satellite control system is operational, so the agency could consider regaining control. In a few weeks, NASA will decide whether or not there is interest in relaunching observations with the satellite.
