Google allows the disabling of follow-up ads

Users connected to their Google Account can now opt out of advertiser reminder ads that track them on the web.

Google introduces change for the management of reminder ads by users. These ads get their name from the fact that they can be called as a reminder, to follow a previous consultation of a website.

By using Google's advertising services, advertisers can take advantage of lists of visitors to their sites. They can then send reminder ads to prompt a user to revisit pages.

An example of an application is for an online store where a product's page has been viewed. An ad from this store for that same product may then appear when viewing another website.

From a Google Account, the "Ads Settings" will have a section dedicated to reminder ads. It will then be possible to delete an advertiser's reminder ads. This control tool is being deployed.

The deactivation lasts at least 90 days. According to Google, "reminder ads are rarely shown beyond this time period." In the coming months, the tool will be expanded to ads on YouTube, Search, and Gmail.

Among other initiatives, Google is showing its willingness to improve the experience and control for the advertising that makes up the bulk of its revenue and monetize part of the Web. Will they be better accepted by users? Next month, it will be the Google Chrome browser that will hunt for intrusive ads.
