Samsung: an air quality sensor in Galaxy smartphones?


Smartphones now have many sensors (movement, brightness, barometer ...). Those of Samsung could soon add a sensor of measurement of the quality of the air.

The smartphones carry more and more computing power but also more and more sensors. From sensing motion and acceleration to the barometer through light sensors, all these sensors model and influence the user experience, triggering interactions or collecting information.

To this arsenal, the Samsung group could soon add a sensor to measure air quality.

A patent highlighted by the Galaxy Club site describes a method of counting particles in ambient air that could eventually result in a sensor integrated into Galaxy smartphones giving an indication of air quality.

  It can be imagined that this element could constitute a differentiating element in certain markets and complement the paraphernalia of sensors extracting information from everyday activity, but this is still only a patent and it remains to be seen whether, it will actually be realized one day.
