Keynote Apple: One more thing ... the iPhone X with OLED screen, facial recognition and wireless charging!

Once was not customary and to celebrate the ten years of the iPhone, there was a "one more thing" during Apple's keynote at the Steve Jobs Theater: the iPhone X with its OLED display covering the entire face before.

In order to celebrate the ten years of the iPhone and in memory of Steve Jobs, it took a moment "one more thing" in Apple's keynote of this September 12th conducted in the glass auditorium Steve Jobs Theater.

It is therefore an iPhone X (pronounced "10") that plays the third iPhone object of all the leaks for months and whose final denomination only became clear in recent days.

The smartphone is the first in the series to offer an OLED display covering the entire front face, except for a small step at the top. It is also equipped with a dual photo sensor but oriented vertically (that of the iPhone 8 Plus is horizontal).

Like the iPhone 8/8 Plus, it offers a waterproof glass shell but is only available in two colors: space gray and silver (no gold color at the moment, so).

The display changes to Super Retina with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels and a density of 458 ppi for a diagonal of 5.8 inches. You can find the 3D Touch, the True Tone display or the HDR and Dolby Vision support.

As expected, iPhone X completely removes the Home button and introduces the Face ID system with facial recognition for unlocking the smartphone thanks to its sensors in the dark band at the top of the screen.

The face of the user is thus analyzed by 30 000 infrared points creating a 3D model compared to the pre-recorded data when activating Face ID.

This is also where the new Apple A11 "bionic" processor comes in, which integrates instruction sets to manage machine learning. This integrated "neural engine" is dual core and capable of processing 600 billion instructions per second and real-time processing.

Apple is pleased to announce the reliability of its facial recognition system that will not let itself be deceived by a simple image (such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 / Note 8) and will recognize you even if you change your haircut or push your beard. And the infrared beam also works in the dark.

This facial recognition will also work for mobile payment Apple Pay but also to create 3D avatars, such as animojis usable in iMessage.

The dual photo sensor is composed of 12 megapixel modules with the same f / 1.8 (wide angle) and f / 2.8 (telephoto) openings as the iPhone 8 Plus, with dual optical stabilization and four-LED True Tone .

The iPhone X also promises an average battery life of up to 2 hours compared to the iPhone 7, and the Qi wireless charge is built into the smartphone. Apple will finally offer a base charging baptized AirPower but that will only be available next year.

The iPhone X is announced in two capacities, 64 GB or 256 GB, and its price will start well at 999 dollars which translates in 1159 € in France. We will have to wait until October 27th to order it, with availability from November 3rd.

It is the new top of the range iPhone series, while the iPhone SE is the opening range and the iPhone 6S remains current in the catalog.
