Autos: Ford and Domino's experience pizza delivery

Ford and Domino's Pizza delve into a pizza delivery experience with a stand-alone car. It is not the so-called autonomous conduct that is the object of the test.

The delivery of pizzas by drone flying then rolling, and now by stand-alone car? Domino's Pizza seeks to understand how customers will react and interact with this type of delivery. In collaboration with Ford, an experiment will be conducted in the United States.

Randomly selected, customers in the town of Ann Arbor, Michigan who order a pizza, will have the opportunity to be delivered by an autonomous Ford Mondeo experimental.

Preliminary tests had already been conducted in an urban environment simulator on the University of Michigan campus. The problem is that in the context of the new experiment, hidden behind a tinted glass, an engineer will find himself at the wheel of the autonomous car ... which will not really exploit its capacities.

Experimentation will not focus on autonomous behavior and its different aspects. The subject of the experiment is the end user who will be able to follow the vehicle via GPS on an application, receive an SMS on his approach and recover his pizza by unlocking a heated compartment inside the vehicle.

Between a beautiful marketing operation and a real research subject ... our heart balances.
