Nginx is the most popular web server among sites that generate high traffic.Netcraft's latest figures on Web servers confirm the take-off of Nginx free software. Over the month of March, Nginx was the only major provider of web server to see its market share rise over all four indicators of the report.Netcraft, based on responses received from 1.76 billion sites and 6.27 million computers, estimates Nginx's market share at nearly 20% on all Web sites, active sites and Computers. It is 29% on the first million sites with the most traffic.
Of the million sites with the largest traffic, Nginx is only beaten by Apache. For W3Techs, which also highlights the rapid growth of Nginx, it is ahead of Apache on the first 100,000 traffic sites.
"Half of the Web still runs on the Apache web server, but a third party is already using Nginx, and the gap fills quickly," W3Techs writes, for Nginx benefiting from its ability to support some of the most modern protocols .
