For future versions of Office applications and without having to subscribe to the Office 365 service, Windows 10 will become a requirement.
Microsoft Office 2019 Office Suite will be available in the second half of this year. On the side of applications on client versions of Windows (as opposed to server), it will integrate Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Skype for Business. Pre-applications of new applications will be proposed in the second quarter.
To take advantage of these applications, Windows 10 will be an obligation. Office 2019 will only work with Windows 10.

In addition, client applications will only be available through Click-to-Run ("One-Click") technology for an installation. There will be no use of Windows Installer (MSI) technology for deployment (and no ISO).
Note that all this does not concern Office for Mac. In addition, it is here question of the Office suite with a definitive license or the so-called perpetual version.
Especially for companies with heterogeneous Windows environments, the purpose of the maneuver is to push for Office 365 offers which is a subscription service. Another effect is to encourage the abandonment of Windows 7 and 8.1.
