Russian trolls: Twitter closes new accounts


According to Twitter, nearly 700,000 people in the United States were exposed to Russian propaganda during the US presidential election.


 
  
Twitter has published new figures in connection with its investigation into Russian propaganda to influence the latest election campaign in the United States. Still in sight, the Internet Research Agency based in St. Petersburg who is accused of using false accounts on social networks to publish messages on sensitive topics in the American public.

Referring to this Internet research agency, Twitter indicates that it has identified and closed 1,062 additional accounts. In total, the number of closed accounts increased to 3,814. These accounts published 175,993 tweets, including nearly 8.4% in connection with the elections.

In the case of Russian-based automated accounts that tweeted election-related content during the elections, Twitter's additional analysis identified an additional 13,512 accounts, for a total of 50,258.


Twitter will send emails to 677,775 people in the United States who have tracked Internet Research Agency accounts, "retweeted or liked" one of his posts during the election period. "Because we have already suspended these accounts, the content on Twitter is no longer available," writes the social network that chirps.


 Like Facebook and Google, US parliamentarians asked Twitter to be transparent about its investigation into suspicions of Russian interference in the US presidential election.

Even though such a "Russian troll" activity ultimately accounted for a marginal percentage of activity on the platform, Twitter states that it "represents a challenge for democratic societies around the world, and we are determined to continue to work on this important issue. "
