CES 2018: Samsung presents The Wall, a 146-inch microLED display

Next to the OLED and QLED, Samsung is showing on CES 2018 The Wall, a giant 146-inch display using microLED technology.

The Samsung group has made a specialty of OLED displays in mobile devices, while offering QLED technology for its large flat screens and TVs.

Other promising technologies could emerge in the coming years, such as microLEDs, miniature LEDs (of the order of μm) which have the advantage of consuming little and not requiring backlighting.

This technology is still not widespread but it should gain ground in the coming years. Samsung takes advantage of CES 2018 to unveil The Wall, a large 146-inch display that uses microLED technology and can display 4K UHD.

The use of microLED can also do without color filters, which gives The Wall great finesse and a beautiful image quality, including its colors and brightness.

Latest quality compared to other screen technologies, and especially the OLED, microLED screens offer a long life. The Wall is finally a modular display, consisting in fact of multiple small plates carrying the microLED.

Although Samsung plans to market this screen, it is mainly a demonstrator of the possibilities of microLED technology.
