Android: first security update of 2018


Android's new monthly security update is announced.
The first of the year 2018.


 

New monthly security update for Android, which is therefore the first of the year 2018. The program, the correction of about twenty vulnerabilities in the security patch 2018-01-01 and eighteen in the patch 2018 -01-05.

Google highlights the correction of five critical flaws, including three affecting the Media Framework and one at the system level (Android Oreo included). They are of the remote code execution type. The type of the last critical flaw affecting a Qualcomm component is not specified.

 As with virtually every new release, the Android security team says it has not received a report of active exploitation in attacks. She adds that the biggest risk is a vulnerability in the Media Framework with a specially crafted file that could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of a privileged process.

Specific corrections to Pixel and Nexus devices are published separately. There is no mention of critical vulnerabilities.
