Applications to train the first four Emirati astronauts are open. Joining the International Space Station is a prime goal.
The UAE Astronaut Program opens to applications from men and women of Emirates nationality, graduates and mastering Arabic and English. The first UAE space program has just been launched with the aim of training four astronauts.
These four Emirati astronauts will be selected at the end of 2018. Training will run from 2019 to 2021. They will be prepared to join the International Space Station, if necessary. However, no date has been specified for the ISS.

"For the first time, an Emirati will join the crew of the space station, which will further strengthen the position of the United Arab Emirates among the first space nations in the world," reads the UAE Astronaut Program website.
