Nissan will test autonomous taxis next year in Japan



Nissan is taking another step towards the autonomous consumer vehicle and announces the launch of a test phase with autonomous taxis in Japan next year.

Nissan is already testing some of its autonomous vehicles in Tokyo. At the heart of the project is the ProPilot program, which offers several modules, some of which are already in place on the Leaf 2.

For several months, it is Infiniti Q50 which are equipped with the most accomplished version of the system which also wants to be particularly discreet compared to the modules of the competition.



And the builder should go even further next year because it is autonomous taxis in Yokohama. Taxis can be reserved from a mobile application, they will go to the point of recovery of passengers and then drop them at their point of fall. Payment should be made online via the dedicated application, which will also allow to choose the route according to several options, in particular to enjoy the landscape or tourist places.

For Nissan, this is to test a service that could be deployed for 2020 and the deadline is not trivial, since this year Tokyo will host the Olympics. In other words, the event will be an opportunity to showcase the group's technologies to millions of tourists from all over the world.


As for the test, which should last two weeks, pre-registration will be open from January 15, for a test organized in March.
