Google announces the abandonment of Project Tango in the spring

Google recently announced the end of technical support for the Tango Project platform dedicated to augmented reality. A necessary step to focus now on ARCore.

Beginning next spring, Google will no longer support Project Tango's hardware and software platform. The program aimed at developing augmented reality applications with a tablet equipped with several sensors to scan entire environments was launched in 2014.

Project Tango was later developed through partnerships, including its integration by Lenovo in the Phab Pro 2, a 6.4-inch Android smartphone with two cameras and various sensors.

The abandonment of the project does not mean that Google is withdrawing from augmented reality, since it is his new development kit that will take over: ARCore.

More accessible because it does not require specific hardware, ARCore should allow developers to offer augmented reality applications in Android. Applications that could result in developers and publishers being compensated, and that will not need the Tango Project's crowd of sensors. In short, with ARCore, it is a park of millions of users that will potentially be targeted by the applications developed.
