Oculus Go: Autonomous Virtual Reality Helmet at only $ 199

Oculus unveiled a new affordable virtual reality headset with the Oculus Rift offering a stand-alone, cable-free and smartphone-free experience.

Between the Oculus Rift helmet, semi-autonomous and high-end, and the Gear VR, which requires a smartphone, there is now the Oculus Go headset that requires neither cable nor smartphone and will be offered for only 199 dollars.

Although not yet the Oculus Santa Cruz, a totally autonomous helmet in development, which is a separate project that was demonstrated at the Oculus Connect conference, this Oculus Go headset does not incorporate Rift tracking mechanisms but will offer new lenses, a 2560 x 1440 pixel LCD screen and an integrated audio system with speakers for spatial sound and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The headset will be delivered with a simplified controller similar to that of the Gear VR and its applications will be compatible with the Oculus Go, allowing developers to create applications running on the Gear VR as well as the Oculus Go ... which suggests that it runs more or less under Android and that it will be able to enjoy a catalog of titles at launch.
