Before his arrest, Deng Jiewei and his partner in charge of marketing would have thus gained nearly 14,000 yuan, or about 1,800 €. The man was convicted in March, but it was only recently that the sentence was made public.


 This is one of the first convictions of this type and it has made the Chinese Internet users react. In China, which operates a broad censorship of the Internet, VPN applications are popular. At the end of July, Apple was forced to remove all VPN applications from its App Store in China. From 1 February 2018, access to VPNs should be blocked in China.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill banning technologies that allow Internet users to access online content banned in Russia (VPN, proxy, anonymization tools such as Tor). It is expected to enter into force on 1 November 2017.
