Google challenges its record fine in Europe

Respectfully disagreeing with the sanction of the European Commission, Google files an action for the annulment of its fine of 2.42 billion euros for abuse of dominant position by favoring its price comparator.

At the end of June, the European Commission imposed a fine of 2.42 billion euros on Google for abuse of a dominant position in the search engines sector, favoring its own price comparison service.

Google is accused of having offered a better position to Google Shopping results when queries with its search engine is the most used in Europe, as well as the demotion of competing price comparators in search results.

Following this sanction, Google has presented solutions to stop the anti-competitive practices pointed at. If they are satisfactory, they will have to be applied by September 28, otherwise the subsidiary of the Alphabet group is exposed to daily penalties.

Anyway, Google has decided to appeal against its record fine of 2.42 billion euros. An action for annulment was lodged with the Court of Justice of the European Union. A procedure which is already long, but the appeal is not suspensive.

At the announcement of its sanction, Google said it was "respectfully disagree" with the conclusions of the European Commission. The recourse was therefore logically expected, even if the remedies proposed by Google could falsely suggest a calming of the situation.

And when we also know that the preliminary conclusions for the moment in Brussels are in the direction of an abuse of dominance of Google with its online advertising services AdSense and the Android operating system ... the climate will soon turn to the storm.
