Facebook kills its application dedicated to groups

End Clap for the standalone mobile application targeting Facebook groups. Back to the forced passage by the main application of the social network.

Introduced at the end of 2014 by the social network, the application Groups Facebook - or Facebook Groups - for Android and iOS will stop working after the end of this month of August. Users will no longer be able to log in.

The purpose of this stand-alone application was to allow users to manage and interact with groups they are members of, as well as to create or join based on interests through a discovery tab.

While reaffirming its commitment to groups, Facebook now believes that everything must happen in its main application itself. The only explanation used to justify the scrapping of the application dedicated to the groups.

"With our efforts focused on groups in the main Facebook application and on facebook.com, we decided to drop the Facebook Groups application for iOS and Android," wrote the Facebook Groups team.

The stand-alone application for groups had the advantage of circumventing the news feed. According to Facebook, the dedicated application has seduced many users but a specific number is not mentioned.

Facebook groups are used by more than a billion people a month, while the 2 billion mark on Facebook users has been crossed.
