United States: Russian hacker sentenced to 27 years in prison

Accused of computer piracy in a case of theft of payment card data, a Russian cybercrime was sentenced to 27 years in prison in the United States. He is the son of a Russian deputy near Vladimir Putin. Aged 32 and of Russian nationality, Roman Seleznev was sentenced in the United States to a sentence of 27 years in prison. With 38 counts on the counter, this cybercrime was found guilty of stealing and selling over 2 million payment card numbers. The alleged acts took place between October 2009 and October 2013. Roman Sleznev - alias Track2 - hacked point-of-sale systems and installed a malware to steal credit card numbers. The US Department of Justice explained that the stolen data was sent to servers controlled by Track2 in Russia, Ukraine and the US state of Virginia. They were resold on cybercrime sites that allow purchasers to make fraudulent purchases. The amount of losses was estimated at at least $ 169 million for 3,700 financial institutions and more than 500 small-sized US companies. Roman Sleznev was arrested at an airport in the Maldives in July 2014 and transferred to Guam - an island attached to the United States - for trial. It turns out that the man is the son of Valery Seleznev, a member of the Russian parliament and ally of the predicted Vladimir Putin, who had denounced his abduction by the American secret services. The 27-year prison sentence in the United States is a record for such acts of piracy.
