SnapDragon 670: an octocore SoC future but in 6 + 2 configuration

The SoC SnapDragon 670 probably exists but it has a configuration quite different from what had been felt a few months ago.

After the SoC SnapDragon 845 high-end unveiled last December, the Qualcomm group is also expected to renew the mid-range with the introduction of the platform SnapDragon 670 for smartphones at the border between mid-range and high-end.

Some details had emerged in December but new information, this time from configuration files from Qualcomm, shed new light on its configuration.

If the SoC SnapDragon 670 will be good octocore, it is not the usual 4 + 4 configuration that will be found but a 2 + 6 organization, with 2 powerful hearts and 6 "economic" hearts.

The powerful hearts are of the Kryo 300 Gold type and are derived from the ARM Cortex-A75, while the economic hearts are Kryo 300 Silver, variant of the ARM Cortex-A55.

According to Winfuture.de, the powerful hearts will reach a rate of 2.6 GHz, against 1.7 GHz for the 6 others. With such a configuration, the SoC will offer interesting performance in daily tasks without consuming too much energy, while powerful hearts will be mobilized only for energy-intensive tasks.

GPU side, we should find an Adreno 615 graphics chip clocked at 700 MHz and the solution will support UFS type storage. It is probably for the MWC 2018 show that Qualcomm will formalize this new SoC, with smartphone launches during the following quarters.
