Spotify: 70 million paying subscribers

The addition of 10 million paying subscribers in the space of six months for Spotify consolidating its position as a leader in music streaming.

World leader in music streaming, Spotify now claims 70 million paid subscribers, an increase of 10 million compared to last summer. The total number of active users (free and paid) is not specified, knowing that it was 140 million in June.

This figure falls as Spotify prepares its IPO in New York. According to Reuters, the Swedish group has filed documents with the US Securities Regulator (SEC) for an initial public offering in the first half of this year.

At the end of 2017, Spotify teamed up with the Chinese giant Tencent and its subsidiary Tencent Music Entertainment as part of a cross-shareholding agreement. What to open the doors of China and attract the attention of Chinese investors.

Still, Spotify still would not be profitable. What's more, despite the signing of new licensing agreements with Universal Music, Sony Music and Warner Music, a shadow is the $ 1.6 billion complaint filed by Wixen Music Publishing in the United States. It can be a bad thing.
