iPhone X: Apple wants to reduce Face ID notch

If Apple has hit hard with its iPhone X, the design of the device does not necessarily please everyone, and the brand is now working to reduce a little more black notch dedicated to the Face ID and the speaker.

The iPhone X was surprised by its design during its presentation. On the one hand the terminal put on a screen never seen in the world of Apple so far with a large display area, but it also offers a particular form with a black notch dedicated to the speaker and to the Face ID module.

To gain the display surface, Apple has chosen to no longer offer fingerprint identification, allowing him to remove his Home button and win in place. Unfortunately, this module was swapped by a device called Face ID which is based on several sensors and a camera attached to the top of the device next to the speaker.

This notch poses a problem for the brand who wants to reduce it a little more. According to ETNews, Apple is currently looking to combine two modules: the infrared camera dedicated to Face ID and the photo sensor for selfies. To propose more than one photo sensor would make it possible to gain 20% on the surface of the current notch.

Apple would have turned to LG Innotec to develop this new sensor ... which could as well be replaced by a fingerprint reader located under the screen. Note that other manufacturers, we are also working to turn the screen directly to the diaphragm to permanently separate from the traditional speaker. By combining these two technologies, there would remain only the sensors of brightness and proximity and the camera to be placed on the front of the smartphone.
