Nvidia: end of 32-bit OS support for graphics drivers

The 390 version of Nvidia's graphics drivers will be the very latest with support for 32-bit operating systems.

After the future publication of its graphics drivers in version 390, and regardless of the GPU architecture, Nvidia announced the discontinuation of support for 32-bit operating systems. This decision affects Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, as well as Linux and FreeBSD.

This means that improvements and optimizations for graphics drivers, as well as operating system features will no longer be integrated. There will also be no backports from new pilots to old ones.

Nvidia, on the other hand, points out that patches for critical security vulnerabilities will still be available until January 2019. The decision for 32-bit OS drivers is whether they are running on x64 and x32 CPU architectures.

It is a decision in the air of time likely to impact some players. Valve's Steam platform figures show that all 32-bit operating systems account for less than 2% of users in November.
