iPhone X: 3 million units available pre-order but still shortages of components

All the concerns of production of the iPhone X are not solved but the Cupertino firm should have an initial stock of 2 to 3 million units for the phase of pre-orders, with always difficulties to produce enough components.

A few days from the launch of the pre-orders of the iPhone X, all eyes are turned to this special edition integrating for the first time an AMOLED display and a TrueDepth sensor allowing advanced face recognition Face ID.

Rumors of production difficulties resulting in low volumes available at launch continue and Ming-Chi Kuo analyst KGI Securities suggests that Apple will only have a volume of 2 to 3 million iPhone X offer for pre-orders.

Given the expectations around the special model despite its high-end tariff, the stock shortage should occur very quickly. While the 3D sensor modules remain difficult to produce, the KGI analyst also notes that the production of flexible printed circuit boards for antenna patterns would also be complicated, due to stronger constraints than the other models for the materials used , the manufacturing process and subsequent tests.
Some vendors, such as Murata, would not meet all of Apple's requirements, with all production referring to one of them pending solutions. The two photo modules would also operate separate circuit boards (while the same PCB is commonly used for both modules in competing smartphones with dual photo sensors) and that for the wide-angle module would not be produced at the same rate as for the telephoto lens.

These initial difficulties should however be resolved during the month of November, enabling the iPhone X's production capacity to be increased rapidly, reaching a volume of 25 to 30 million units delivered during the last quarter 2017.
