Netflix in HDR on new smartphones

The HDR format for Netflix wins new compatible Android smartphones. They are not yet available.


 For Netflix, support for HDR format displays new compatible Android smartphones. It is not just about the Sony Xperia XZ Premium but also the Xperia XZ1, LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8 from Samsung.

Obviously, the problem is that these smartphones have just been announced and are not yet available. To take advantage of Netflix in HDR, it is necessary to have the Premium package of the video on demand subscription service (UHD).

HDR (High Dynamic Range) is supposed to maximize contrast effects for deeper blacks and bright white. On the Netflix FAQ for streaming in HDR and Dolby Vision, only the LG G6 smartphone is compatible with Dolby Vision which is an HDR format.

Other HDR-compatible devices for Netflix include Chromecast Ultra, Nvidia Shield and Shield Pro, Playstation 4 Pro, Roku Premiere + and Ultra, Xbox One S.


"We recommend an Internet connection speed of at least 25 Mbps to watch streaming titles available in HDR and Dolby Vision with Ultra HD 4K resolution," Netflix writes, however with the ability to enjoy HDR in 1080p for example (if the flow rate is lower).
