Galaxy Note 8: Facial recognition always easily deceived by a photo

The facial recognition of the Galaxy Note 8 seems to be as easy to bypass a simple picture as the Galaxy S8 a few months ago.

With the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, Samsung has introduced a facial recognition mechanism that complements the fingerprint reading and reinforces the biometric capabilities of a smartphone that the group hopes to also sell in the company.

It had unfortunately been quickly demonstrated that this method could be easily deceived by a simple picture of the user's portrait, taken at the right distance and with the right angle.

And it seems that things have hardly evolved with the Galaxy Note 8 that offers the same system of facial recognition. Developer Mel Tajon has re-experimented with a photo taken from his phone, and even using photos taken from Facebook profiles.

Is the problem with the demo mode that does not fully exploit the capabilities of the smartphone or is facial recognition still as permissive? Difficult to decide for now.

In other words, it will not be necessary to rely too much on this mehtode to secure the device if it must contain sensitive data, even if this remains a technique of unlocking practice on a daily basis.

Apple is also expected on this biometric technique. The iPhone 8 is supposed to embark a 3D detection allowing a detailed analysis of the face and which would in principle more difficult to deceive.
