Flying taxi VTOL electric: Lilium raises $ 90 million

After the Volocopter, it was Lilium's turn to take advantage of a solid fundraising campaign to develop a vertical take-off electric vehicle for the future.

During the summer, the Volocopter, a future electric taxi flying project, received significant financial support from Daimler to continue developing the necessary technologies.

Other actors are also in the race to develop these transport vehicles of the future: the Lilium startup, which is developing an Eagle prototype electric flying taxi take-off / vertical landing (VTOL), has just obtained a $ 90 million to complete its project and move on to the industrial stage.

Among the supporters for this big investment are the Chinese group Tencent and investment funds such as Atomico (investment specialist in European startups) or Obvious Ventures, the fund of Evan Williams, co-founder of Twitter.

If the first prototypes allow up to 2 passengers to board, the final versions of the Lilium flying taxi will be able to transport up to 5 passengers by air to major cities, avoiding traffic congestion.

For example, it would be possible to travel between JFK and Manhattan in New York in five minutes with a flying vehicle with 36 small electric motors capable of reaching a speed of 300 km / h and an autonomy of 300 kilometers.
