Facebook: preloading Wi-Fi videos on Android

There are the Instant Articles and there will soon be Instant Videos for Facebook. A restricted test on Android concerns the preloading of videos as soon as a Wi-Fi connection is available.



 It is for now only a test conducted by Facebook with some users with its application for Android. The social network confirmed to TechCrunch an experimental functionality called Instant Video.

The idea is to automatically download videos (a caching) when a Wi-Fi connection is available, and thus the possibility of consulting them later without waiting and without risk of digging in the data envelope.

The Instant Videos are identified by the presence of a lightning bolt icon:


This goes into Facebook's strategy around the video, including with a possible application for the Watch platform that was launched in the United States.
