Tenth consecutive success for the European light launcher Vega with the launch of the OPTSAT-3000 and Venμs satellites for Italy, Israel and France. A take-off payload of 630 kg.

After launching from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou at 22:56 local time (3:56 in Paris on 2 August), the European launcher Vega launched two earth observation satellites at 450 km and 720 km altitude.

From a take-off weight of 368 kg, OPSTAT-3000 is a very high resolution optical Earth observation satellite that will provide daylight images of our planet for the Italian Ministry of Defense.

As part of a joint program between the Israel Space Agency (ISA) and the National Center for Space Studies (CNES), the Venμs satellite is dedicated to the exploration and observation of the Earth and vegetation In order to monitor the effects of climate change. A take-off payload of 264 kg.

With its first flight in February 2012, the Vega launcher has just recorded its tenth consecutive success since its introduction. A rate of fire which is therefore relatively modest for this European light launcher.

Airanespace recalls that the first flight of the Vega C launcher is planned for 2019. "Compared to the current launcher, it will benefit from an increase in performance in terms of satellite carrying capacity (useful mass and volume). Variety of missions (from nano-satellites to large optical satellites and radars). "

Vega C will benefit from the development shared with Ariane 6, and will use the same solid-state engine as the first stage.
