We are Wednesday, August 2, 2017 and for the international organization Global Footprint Network, it is the day of the world pass or Earth Overshoot Day. She believes that humanity has already consumed as many renewable natural resources as our planet Earth is capable of producing over the whole year.

Since 2011, this day of passing continues to advance in the calendar but with some form of stagnation to be confined to the first week of August. Twenty years ago, this symbolic date fell on September 30 and November 12 40 years ago. Knowing that the methodology of calculation (sometimes disputed) is regularly refined.

On the general principle, the date of the global overrun is evaluated by comparing mankind's annual consumption of ecological resources and the regeneration capacity of the Earth. A comparison between ecological footprint and biocapacity.

WWF writes that we have now "emitted more carbon than the oceans and forests could not absorb in one year, caught more fish, cut more trees and made more crops than what the Earth could have produced Over the same period. "For balance ... it would have taken the equivalent of 1.7 planet Earth.
