The Transalpine Competition Authority imposes a fine of 3 million euros on WhatsApp for prompting users to share data with Facebook.
Following an investigation opened in October 2016, the Italian competition authority announces a fine of 3 million euros against the application of WhatsApp which is in the bosom of Facebook.
One procedure (among others) was to determine whether WhatsApp had forced users to accept all new terms of service established in August 2016. In particular, with respect to the sharing of their personal data with Facebook, Suggesting that otherwise the use of WhatsApp would be impossible.
In a statement, the Transalpine authority writes that WhatsApp has indeed encouraged users to do so. However, former users had the opportunity to refuse data sharing.
It should also be remembered that the European CNIL have questioned the legitimacy of updating the terms of use of WhatsApp.
