Samsung: a first 150-inch microLED TV for CES 2018?

The Samsung group would consider making a first demonstration of a TV using microLED technology and a diagonal of 150 inches for CES 2018 in Las Vegas.

MicroLED technology could complement or even replace the OLED in a few years by always promising less power consumption (hence a particular interest in mobile devices) and devices even more refined compared to current LCD or OLED technology

While it is rumored that Apple is moving forward in its research on microLED and is considering a first use for its connected watch Apple Watch, it is perhaps the Samsung group that will make a first demonstration in a few weeks .

The Korean group would indeed be able to present a 150-inch microLED TV at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, at the beginning of January 2018. It had already presented a microLED display for theaters earlier this year but a TV, even for the high end, alongside its QLED displays, is a first opening of the microLED technology to the general public.

With its microscopic LEDs, the microLED displays display a good image quality without suffering from high energy consumption. They also avoid the problem of burn-in and shorter life encountered with OLED tiles.

For the moment, it is only question of large screens, the production techniques to be refined before considering smaller microLED displays usable in smartphones or tablets, which should not happen before 2020 at better.
