AR and VR: Google exposes 3D objects with Poly

Google is launching a Poly platform for discovering and sharing 3D objects and scenes.

This week, Google unveiled a platform for sharing objects and 3D scenes called Poly. The goal is to unite a community of creators and developers for augmented reality and virtual reality.

Google thinks in particular Daydream, ARCore and ARKit (Apple). The tool is integrated with Tilt Brush and Blocks applications, with the possibility to directly upload files in OBJ format.

Poly echoes Microsoft's Remix3d.com community for 3D models, although the Redmond firm puts more emphasis on 3D creativity for the computer through its Paint 3D application in Windows 10.

Users can already navigate Poly. An animated GIF to share can also be generated when a creative arouses interest. An API will be proposed later to the developers, first in anticipation.
