Facebook tests Instant Pay Items

Facebook is looking for new ways to monetize its huge user base to seduce its partners and launch a test with paid Instant Articles.

Facebook wants to replace part of the Web by concentrating a set of data and services to meet the needs of its user base, and this is how the group has been trying for several years to seduce the press and the media. Today, the social network launches a test with the distribution of Instant Items pay for Android.

A dozen major press groups are involved in this test phase. For the latter, it will now be necessary to put your hand in the pocket to read the articles on the Facebook network. Parisian notes, Bild, Boston Globe, Telegraph, Spiegel and others will be readable by Android users only if they have paid in advance.

Payments are made directly from Paywall, by post or by subscription at rates selected by each publisher. Facebook said no commission is levied, to encourage the media to settle on its platform.

For Facebook, it is above all to retain readers and make its network an information platform to compete with Google News. It remains to be seen whether readers will be ready to put their hands in their pockets when everything is free anywhere else on the social network.
