The company has successfully completed ground-based ignition tests of the powerful BE-4 engine that will power the heavy launcher and was developed in-house with the participation of ULA (United Launch Alliance).

The first stage of the New Glenn launcher shall be equipped with 7 BE-4 engines, and the second stage of a single BE-4 engine, for a rocket capable of low orbiting up to 45 tonnes of payload, or 13 tons in geostationary orbit.

The BE-4 engine could also become the preferred choice for the ULA's Vulcan next-generation rocket engine, in contrast to Aerojet Rocketdyne's competing AR1 engine.
