Stream ripping: YouTube urged to solve the problem

The music industry is asking YouTube to act against the practice of stream ripping. This is not new.

After the case of the closure of Youtube-mp3.org, TorrentFreak asked an official of the British Phonographic Industry. He says that BPI and other music industry representatives have been urging YouTube to take effective measures to block access to its servers at stream ripping sites for several years.

A former head of the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), for his part, deplores the fact that the Google search engine continues to refer users to such sites, including the autocomplete with the keyword "youtube" for example "mp3" or "converter."

In the past, Google had already warned of sites for violating the terms of use of YouTube and its API, and prohibiting its use to encourage or promote copyright infringement. However, streaming sites do not necessarily use this API.

"There are other measures that YouTube could take to prevent the extraction of music flows, but so far the music community has been forced to directly sue stream ripping sites," says Geoff Taylor of the BPI .

The alternatives to Youture-mp3.org are legion. See if closing this site will have an impact. For the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which is based on an Ipsos study, "stream ripping sites are exploited on a large scale", and the practice would concern 53% of 16 to 24 year olds. "The music industry will continue to take firm action to tackle other sites (editor's note: Youtube-mp3.org)."
