RED: holographic screen smartphone will use LEIA technology

The RED brand wants to create a first smartphone with holographic display. It will be based on the technology of the California start-up LEIA.

A first smartphone with holographic display could see the light in 2018. This is at least the promise of the luxury brand RED with the smartphone Hydrogen One that it begins to put forward.

The highlight of the smartphone will be on this display supposed to display holograms hanging over the screen and which remains to be seen if this ambitious promise will be held.

The technology should in any case be brought by the California startup LEIA, a spin-off of HP Labs seeking to commercialize the research work obtained in this field.

No concrete demonstration or product has yet emerged from this company founded in 2014, apart from some videos of presentation but it is also this technology that counts to use Altice to unveil a smartphone with holographic screen before the end of 2017 (although no new information has been circulated since the 2016 announcement).

The mystery remains about the ability to produce holograms from an LCD mobile display with a specific layer to generate effects.
