The TF1 group has finally taken the plunge by cutting access to its TV channels including TF1 subscribers SFR / Numéricable
TF1 announced today that its broadcasting contracts on the Numericable / SFR network have expired despite long and fruitless negotiations carried out in recent months between TF1 and the Altice group, which owns SFR / Numericable. First consequence, TF1 announces that SFR is no longer allowed to operate its MYTF1 replay service from their box and from the SFR TV application, as well as to broadcast its TF1, TMC, NT1, LCI and HD1.
As a reminder, TF1 has been trying to negotiate with major French Internet access providers (Free, Orange, SFR, ..) for months without success, all refusing to pay to broadcast the group's channels, Since 2006 by the ISPs. SFR even sought arbitration with the CFS in order to put an end to this conflict, but which has not yet been dealt with.
Following this surprise announcement by TF1, SFR has just replied by publishing a press release stating loud and clear that "nothing changes for SFR customers".
According to the Altice group, "despite the TF1 communication operation, there is no change for SFR subscribers concerning the broadcasting of TF1 channels. My TF1 service is available via computer, tablet, mobile and OTT on TV. "
SFR also speaks of an "unfair attempt to take hostage of its customers." And is surprised that TF1 did not wait for the results of the appeals filed by SFR with the CSA and by Orange before the Commercial Court.
The unilateral cut of My TF1 for the subscribers of SFR constitutes according to SFR "a considerable prejudice against which SFR studies all possible avenues of recourse."
SFR finally recalls that "TF1, after more than 30 years, now wants to be paid for the broadcast of its free channel. For the first time since the creation of the cable and the Adsl, a television wants to be remunerated for the broadcasting of its Free channel. " Even though "the TF1 Group enjoys a dominant position on the French market and has a license for free terrestrial broadcasting".
SFR finally regrets that "TF1, in disregard of regulators and viewers, is trying in the heart of summer to take hostage SFR customers."
The war comes officially to start with a first offensive of TF1, remains to be seen that will emerge victorious, in all cases surely not subscribers caught in the middle of the turmoil ...
